What we do

A full-service partner for every stage of your garden.

From design and conceptualisation to implementation, project management and seasonal care — we can take on the whole journey, or just the part you need a hand with.

01

Hardscaping

The fixed features that shape a garden’s character — earth excavation, walls and fences, terracing, greenhouses, sheds, outdoor saunas, raised beds and in-ground trampolines.

02

Softscaping

The living elements that bring a garden to life — planting strategies for colour, aroma and biodiversity, drawing in the insects, bees, birds and small mammals that make a place hum.

03

Garden Design

Building or renovating? We help shape the vision — practical, functional, beautiful spaces designed around how you live. From old-school pencil drawings to AI-generated imagery to align the dream.

Garden Maintenance

Every garden is striving to flourish, and every garden needs tending. Weekly attention to the detail, or seasonal help with the heavier jobs you can’t keep up with — a solution that fits your life.

Forestry & Tree Surgery

We love trees — you might call us tree-huggers. We plant them, care for them and help them reach their full potential. And when a tree must make way for a new vision, we handle that too.

Permaculture Consulting

Nature-inspired design that works with the land, not against it — composting, water strategy, food forests, bio-mimicry and whole-system permaculture design for a garden that gives back.

Ad Hoc Services

Not every job needs a master plan — pruning before guests arrive, a wall that needs fixing, a one-off tidy or a tricky tree. And if you’re tackling a project yourself, we’re happy to work alongside you and lend an extra pair of experienced hands whenever you need them.

The people behind it

A small team with soil under our nails.

We're a hands-on crew who genuinely love this work — the kind of people who get excited about a well-laid stone, a thriving border, or a tree finally finding its feet.

Local, dependable and a little bit barefoot at heart, we treat every garden as if it were our own. Meet the faces behind The Barefoot Gardener.

  • ★★★★★

We recently had The Barefoot Gardener carry out some work at our house and were extremely impressed from start to finish. They worked quickly and efficiently, and everything was left clean and tidy at the end of each day, which was greatly appreciated.

It’s clear they care deeply about what they do and are passionate about delivering a great result for their clients. We would happily recommend The Barefoot Gardener to anyone looking for reliable, professional gardeners and landscaping.

  • ★★★★★

Barry and the team from The Barefoot Gardener were entrusted with bringing the final part of our renovation together, and they have been a pleasure to work with from start to finish. We are thrilled with the results.

Polite, professional, and a joy to have around, they made the whole process easy and enjoyable. We cannot recommend them highly enough when it comes to creating your garden dreams.

Our project has several phases, and we will definitely be using Barry and the team again for the next stages.

    Thanks Barry and the boys!

Frequently asked questions

Still wondering?

Every garden and budget is different. The easiest way to get a real answer is a quick chat — the first visit is free.

Ask us anything

We work throughout the Val de Bagnes — every village and hamlet from Verbier to Bruson, and Lourtier to Levron, including Le Châble, Vollèges, Champsec, Versegères, Etiez and Sarreyer. If you’re nearby and not sure, just ask.

Yes — always. We’ll come and walk the space with you, talk through ideas and what’s realistic, and there’s no obligation to go any further. It’s the best way for both of us to see if we’re a good fit.

We can take on the whole journey — design and conceptualisation, implementation and project management — or step in for just the part you need, whether that’s a single dry-stone wall or a season of maintenance.

Hardscaping is the fixed structure of a garden — walls, terracing, paths, patios and built features. Softscaping is the living layer — the planting strategies that bring colour, scent and biodiversity. Most gardens need a thoughtful balance of both.

It’s at the heart of what we do. From composting and water strategy to food forests and whole-system permaculture design, we love building gardens that work with the land and give back to it.

In the Alps, timing matters. Hardscaping can often run through the shoulder seasons, while planting is best in spring and autumn. The sooner we talk, the better we can plan around the mountain calendar — popular slots fill up early.
